Late Three Run Homers

Yesterday I noted that after Jorge Cantu hit a three-run homer for San Diego, only the Tigers and Twins have yet to hit a long ball that yielded more than two runs. With batting events going back to 1974 in the Day by Day Database, here are the latest dates that teams hit their first home run of at least three runs:

Ignore the 1995 dates, as the season started late that year due to the strike. As you can see, it’s not that unusual for a team to go into late May without a three-run homer, but it happened more often in the 1970s and 1980s.
