Not Kissing Cousins

Brian Sabean harbors tons of ill will toward Scott Cousins:

“Why not be hard nosed?” Sabean said. “If I never hear from Cousins again or he never plays another game in the big leagues, I think we’ll all be happy.”

Asked later in the interview if perhaps those words were too harsh, Sabean didn’t back down. In fact, he left little doubt that the Giants are bent on getting some on-field vengeance.

“Well, no,” Sabean said. “He chose to be a hero in my mind, and if that’s his flash of fame, that’s as good as it’s going to get, pal. We’ll have a long memory. Believe me, we’ve talked to (former catcher Mike) Matheny about how this game works. You can’t be that out-and-out overly aggressive. I’ll put it as politically as I can state it: There’s no love lost and there shouldn’t be.”

So if Giants players retaliate against Cousins, will they be suspended? This was pretty close to a threat.

Weren’t there some Giants who said it was a clean play? What does Sabean think of them?

It’s interesting that everyone offers an opinion ONLY after reviewing the play in slow motion, from different angles, many times. Cousins had less than a quarter-second to recognize that Posey dropped the ball (not sure even Posey knew that)and change his approach to the plate. A very tough outcome for a great young player and the World Champs, but I’d like to see Sabean’s quarter-second reaction. Sabean’s comments are way further out of bounds than Cousins actions.Dave, the comments weren’t close to threats, they were threats and if the Giants follow through with retaliation, they will be the one’s penalized. BTW, I’d never heard of Cousins before this play and have no interest in him or his team.
