CC Sabathia pitched seven shutout innings as the Yankees defeated the Indians 9-2. CC struck out 11, giving him 33 K in his last three starts, covering 22 2/3 innings. He had struck out 84 in 114 innings prior to those starts. Sabathia’s drop in strikeouts this season was a bit worrisome. A rate of 6.6 per nine innings is about a K below his career average. If he stayed at that level and opted out of his contract, the Yankees might think twice before re-signing him.
CC did undergo knee surgery and lost a lot of weight over the winter. I wonder if it just took him a long time to adjust to the fixed knee and his new shape. We could be seeing the start of a new and improved Sabathia here.
Derek Jeter went 2 for 6. He needs four more hits for 3000.
CC isn’t on the All Star team, though.
As a Yankee fan, I’m happy about that, but it’s puzzling.
