Lee Beats Gee

Cliff Lee continued his mastery of August as he pitches seven shutout innings against the Mets as the Phillies with 10-0. Dillon Gee gave up six walks in 3 2/3 innings, along with six hits, including a two-run homer by John Mayberry. The eight runs allowed raised Gee’s ERA to 4.37.

Lee, however, lowered his August ERA to 0.58 and his overall number to 2.71. He slips by Vance Worley for third place on the team among the starters. The Philadelphia staff more than lived up to expectations this season.

Update: The starting pitchers tied a record.

And it’s the lowest number of consonants, two: L & G. Fu-Te Ni, I can’t find out if Fu-Te is his last name, which is common in Asian cultures, but anyway he is rounding out to be a decent starter for the Mud Hens. He’s much better as a starter than a closer or other reliever. I suspect he’ll be a #4 or 5 starter next season, whether for the Tigers or another team in a trade.
