Forty Doubles

Melky Cabrera collected his fortieth double of the season for the Royals, giving them three players with at least 40 doubles. That’s only the 27th time in major league history that a team had at least three players at that level. Billy Butlet came into the game with 38 doubles, so he could reach 40 as well, and that would tie the record. The 2006 Rangers, the 1932 Phillies and the 1929 Tigers all had four players with 40 doubles.

The Royals lead 4-0 in the bottom of the fifth.
