Mets Tickets

The Mets moved their season ticket renewal five weeks earlier, and went to a dynamic pricing scheme for some single-game tickets:

In regards to the renewal date of Nov. 7, how are fans supposed to know who they’re plunking down big bucks to watch; considering the free agent market will only have been a few days underway at that point. It seems to me, to accurately judge whether to renew or not, it would help to know who we will be paying to see, i.e., will Jose Reyes be on the roster or not? Sure, there is never a guarantee the team will perform well – even if the deadline to renew was a week before the season started. But, by doing it this early, it seems fans are being asked to make that bet with even less information than usual.

I would guess the Mets consider the lack of information a feature, not a bug. They hope that fans will renew before Jose leaves, rather than not renewing after he leaves. Of course, if fans don’t renew and Jose does leave, I bet there won’t be much demand for season tickets. Those who don’t renew might get a better deal afterward.
