Jerry Hairston, Jr. draws a one-out walk, and Ryan Braun deposits the next pitch into the leftfield stands for a 2-1 Brewers lead over the Cardinals. Prince Fielder gets hit by the next pitch to put another batter on.

The first inning nicely demonstrates the difference between the two offenses. The Cardinals put three batters on, two by singles, to score one run. A walk and a big hit turn into two runs for the Brewers.
