Quade Luded

Theo Epstein’s first on field move is firing Mike Quade:

Epstein praised Quade, but said the Cubs will benefit from someone who can come in “with a clean slate and offer new direction.”

So they are going to hire Mr. Schu from Glee? 🙂

More likely, Theo would bring in Terry Francona.

Quade got off to a great start when he took over the team in 2010.  That magic didn’t hold in the 2011 season.  Carlos Zambrano continued to be a problem, and Starlin Castro didn’t always have his head in the game on defense.  Given the way he e/ited in Boston, maybe Franco a won’t be the best leader for problem players.  Watch for Ryne Sandberg’s name to get a lot of attention.

Update: It appears Theo is not interested in Sandberg, but the Cardinals will interview him. Cubs fans will be very unhappy if Ryne ends up the skipper of St. Louis.

    A) Personally, I kind of think the Cards are just messing with the Cubs on this, but B) as a White Sox fan I’d love to see the reactions if they did hire Ryno.

Agree that the Cards may enjoy toying with Cubs fans a bit, but I doubt they’d interview Sandberg if he weren’t a serious candidate.

On the Cubs side, this is a misstep by Theo. Not major, but enough to generate talk and raise already high expectations even higher. If Theo doesnt think Ryno is good enough, then who’s he got lined up? Connie Mack? Leo the lip, Walter Alston?

Quade always reminded me of Shrek or Don Zimmer. Ugly bald guys shouldn’t be allowed in the dugout.

What’s tougher- taking over the World Champs for a HOF manager, or taking over the ballclub that you yourself had a HOF career?

ArchStanton » I would think the former, as you would likely be universally loved at your old club.

I also think the lack of MLB coaching experience is bogus. It hurt Trey Hillman because he had never been in an ML clubhouse period. Sandberg knows exactly how an ML clubhouse works.
