Players A to Z, Jonathan Herrera

Jonathan Herrera plays second base in a backup role for the Colorado Rockies. Herrera’s strength as a hitter lies in getting on base. In his three seasons in AAA, he posted a .353 OBP with a .343 slugging percentage, so he brings no power to the table. As a major leaguer in just 643 PA over three years, he’s at .325/.314, and remember, this is playing half his games at Coors Field. Both Baseball Reference and Fan Graphs agree he is a good fielder, so he may continue in a backup role for Colorado. He will be seasonal age 27 in 2012. If he doesn’t show better offense in that season, he may be done. History shows that an age where teams let go of non-producing players.
