Bell of the Ball

Heath Bell ended up signing with Miami, ending the angst of Blue Jays fans.

Thursday night, ESPN.com reported that — according to sources — Heath Bell and the Miami Marlins have agreed on a three-year contract for $27 million, with a vesting option for a fourth year at roughly the same money.

That’s cheaper than Jonathan Papelbon. Bell did see his strikeout rate fall in 2011, which given his age is a bad sign for the pitcher. We also don’t know how the new park in Miami will play. It’s at sea level, so the ball should not carry that well. On top of that except for the rightfield line, the fences are deeper than at Sun Life Stadium. It may end up playing much like San Diego.

And Heath also escapes the high state taxes of California for no income tax Florida. Congratulations to Heath.
