Duncan Steps Down

Dave Duncan decided to leave the Cardinals to spend time with his wife as she battles cancer:

The club is expected to announce as early as today Duncan’s intention to relinquish a position he has held with the Cardinals since October 1995 and within the major leagues since 1980, making him the longest-tenured pitching coach in the game’s history.

Reached Thursday night, Duncan declined comment until the club issued a formal announcement.

General manager John Mozeliak confirmed a change in Duncan’s status, describing it as “a fluid situation.”

Duncan is the master of rehabilitation, taking pitchers that seem to be on the downswing and finding something that makes them successful. Without an official announcement, we don’t if this a permanent retirement or just a leave of absence.

My thoughts go out to the entire Duncan family.

His wife could probably use a “master of rehabilitation” right about now. Good luck to them both.

Oh, best of luck to the Duncans, may she have a complete recovery. I have a cousin who had a brain tumor, she’s been cancer free for, I’m guessing, 25 years.
