The Hall Vote

Barry Larkin gets 86% of the vote and is the only player elected to the Hall of Fame this year.

Update: I’m trying to get the vote percentages, but the BBWAA site appears to be down.

Update: The vote is on the front page now. Jack Morris moved up to 66.7%, and Bagwell came in at 56.0%. Morris might make it yet, and now that Bagwell cracked 50%, he is likely on the way to the Hall as well.

Lee Smith also moved up to 50%, and Tim Raines just fell short at 48.7%. Tim is gaining momentum.

Meanwhile, Edgar Martinez doesn’t look that good. He only moved from 32.9% to 36.5%.

Bernine Williams is the only first-year player to remain on the ballot, while Juan Gonzalez falls off in his second season of voting.

Update: In the future, you can probably find the voting results here. It’s amazing to me how slow the BBWAA is at updating their web site.

The next two years’ ballots will be brutal–a combined eleven players by my count who can make at least a plausible argument for a first ballot election, and who will all get substantial double digit % votes even if they don’t make it right away and with steroid accusations and/or innuendo weighing them down. The only player I’m *sure* will get in during the next two elections is Maddux, with Piazza, Glavine, and Mussina on the “possible to probable” list. By the end of the 2014 election, the ballot may be hopelessly logjammed for years, and Morris may find himself waiting for the Veterans after his (likely though not certain) peak on the 2012 ballot.

The BBWAA probably has such an aversion to the baseball blog world that they are afraid to go into their Mom’s basement to update the site… 🙂
