Fans at Fenway

Steve Buckley wonders if the Red Sox are really intent on winning this season:

Instead of focusing on another championship, the Red Sox seemed more concerned this offseason with the upcoming 100th anniversary of Fenway Park [map], or, as I call it, John Henry’s Most Beloved Ballpark. And if you can’t afford the Overpriced, Obstructed-View Bleacher Seats on top of the Green Monster, don’t worry: You can always buy a commemorative Fenway Park brick.

There’s a reason the Red Sox have not played to an empty seat in nearly a decade. In each and every season Henry, Tom Werner and Larry Lucchino have been atop the masthead, they have invested time, money and brains in putting a solid team on the field.

Question: Do you feel the Red Sox are as focused on winning it all in 2012 as they have been in years past? Just asking.

There are going to be years when the right moves for a team are just not in the cards. With the fans celebrating Fenway, a good team will pack the stands. In other words, this is the right year to take a step back and regroup. This isn’t a bad team, and there’s a good chance they make the playoffs. After he celebration, they can make a big splash next winter and bring the fans back to a winner.
