Dexter Fowler added muscle in over the winter in an effort to add power:
Fowler’s training doesn’t guarantee results, but he put himself in a position to succeed. Eager to build off his second-half finish to 2011, Fowler worked out in Las Vegas with Troy Tulowitzki and Jason Giambi. Following a strict diet and training regiment, Fowler added 7 pounds of muscle. He weighs 193 pounds, and by the time he arrived in training camp, he was lifting as much weight as Tulowitzki.
People admit they work out with Giambi? 🙂
Fowler’s power, so far in his major league career, is based on speed. He hit 84 double and 39 triples but just 15 home runs. His power is also based on his home park. He slugs just .363 one the road, but .463 at Coors where the big outfield helps balls avoid outfielders, giving his speed a chance to shine. A little more muscle adding a few home runs on the road will help both the Rockies and Dexter.
