Grand Expectations

Ben Zobrist has his focus in the right place:

“It’s exciting, a new year, 2012. We’re planning on winning the World Series this year. That’s the goal, and from day one here looking forward that’s what we’re focused on.”

The team made the playoffs three times in the last four years. I’m glad to see that’s not good enough any more.

It’s also the right attitude to take into the AL East. The Yankees and Red Sox build toward winning the World Series, not making the playoffs. That tends to make them more than capable of reaching the post season. By putting the World Championship as their goal, the Rays are trying to move into the territory of the big spenders.
