If He Didn’t have Bad Luck, He’d Have No Luck at All

A.J. Burnett needs surgery after a bunt attempt hit him in the eye:

Pirates pitcher A.J. Burnett will undergo surgery on Friday to repair a fractured right orbital bone.

The right-hander injured himself on Wednesday at the team’s spring training facilities in Bradenton, Fla. after a bunt attempt caromed off his face. He flew to Pittsburgh late Wednesday to be further evaluated.

There is no immediate timetable for Burnett’s return.

Remember, keep the bat above the ball!

Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery, and that the injury does not harm his vision.

Another reason to hate the NL’s insistence on letting pitchers hit. WTF are they practicing bunting for this early in ST.

I suppose AJ won’t miss much time if there are no complications or vision loss. However, I would not expect him to bunt very well this year.

Poor Pirates, can’t catch a break.
