The Leaker

It appears the person who leaked Ryan Braun’s failed drug test is known:

If not for the leak — which came from someone whom the Braun defense team talked to in preparing their case — no one would have known that the NL MVP had a positive drug test, appealed the decision and won his appeal. All of that would have remained confidential, as designed in the program.

So, I asked Weiner if the union is contemplating legal action against that person, or if Braun’s people are considering it.

“The union is not,” said Weiner. “I guess I can’t speak for Ryan on that point. That will be their decision. My sense is that what’s done is done. I think that’s also the best thing for everybody.

Was this known? I know both sides believed the leak did not come from MLB or the union, but this is the first time I’ve heard they knew the source of the story.

    To summarize.

    MLB did not leak.

MLB did not collect the sample or hire the collector (CDT is the agreed collector for the MLB/MLBPA JDA).

CDT does work for the DOJ and their protocol differs from the MLB/MLBPA in that they feel the sample is more secure in their collectors home than in a Fed Ex Storage facility. The JDA should probably be changed, even if it was the technicality that got Braun off.

Will Carrol says Brauns team was able to duplicate the positive results simulating storage conditions, but as dubious as that is, he could only be referring to the T/E test. The CIR test measures C13/C12 ratio and would not be changed unless there was tampering.

Last but not least, there was no evidence of tampering and despite Brauns attempts to smear the collector, the guy seems well qualified and reputable and vetted by CDT.

You have to be a pretty diehard fan of Brauns to believe he did not use PED’s. He should of used the diet defense. Anyways, at least he got off on the technicality and won’t lose any time or money. His fans will still support him.
