Tulip Mania

The Rangers signed Derek Holland to a five-year, $28.5 million deal:

The deal is worth $28.5 million, with club options for 2017 ($11 million) and 2018 ($11.5 million), a source said. Holland, 25, was scheduled to be a free agent after the 2015 season.

If he continues to post fWARs over 3.0 wins, the contract will be a steal. Even at two wins a year over replacement, this is an excellent contract for the Rangers. It’s also very nice for Derek, as a pitcher’s career can go south rather quickly.

Holland will turn 30 when the guaranteed portion of the deal expires, so the Rangers have also managed to capture his entire prime.
