Cubs Stay Close

The Cubs beat the Brewers 8-2 behind good pitching from Jeff Samardzija and good table setting at the top of the order. Jeff lasted just five innings, but allowed just one run on three hits and two walks. Opponents are batting just .234 against him on the season. The 1-2-3 hitters in the Cubs lineup combined to go 7 for 15, figuring in half the Cubs runs for the day.

The Cubs stand last in the NL Central, but with the Cardinals losing three in a row, Chicago is just six games out of first place. St. Louis was playing over it’s head a bit in terms of power, so don’t be surprised if they come back to the pack. This is still any team’s division.
