Losing Kemp, Winning the Game

The Dodgers beat the Rockies 11-5 Sunday afternoon, but Matt Kemp leaves the game with a hamstring problem:

All-Star center fielder Matt Kemp, who leads the Dodgers with 12 homers and a .359 batting average, left the game because of an irritated left hamstring after grounding out in the third inning. He has played in 399 consecutive games, the longest current streak in the majors.

The hamstring has bothered Matt for a few days, and his batting average is plummeting as he plays through the injury to keep the streak alive. The Dodgers would be much better off giving him a few days off to recover. They can’t afford to lose him long term.

Bobby Abreu took Matt’s place today and drove in three runs with a double.
