Dickey Does it Again

In a feat that has to be close to Johnny Vander Meer consecutive no hitters, R.A. Dickey throws consecutive one-hitters. He follows his amazing game against the Rays with a one-hitter with the Orioles Monday night as the Mets win 5-0. Dickey walked two and struck out 13, Wilson Betemit picking up the only hit for the O’s. Dickey is on an amazing run in which he allowed three runs, two earned, 21 hits, and five walks in 48 2/3 innings covering his last six starts. In addition, he struck out 63. That kind of power and control for a knuckleball pitcher is incredible.

Jordany Valdespin doubled and tripled, while Ike Davis hit a grand slam to support their star pitcher. Since he throws the knuckleball, maybe the Mets should think about starting Dickey every fourth game.

We were there and except for Betemit’s hit, no one on the O’s even hit the ball hard. Dickey dominated. … By the way, I haven’t been to a game since 2009. It was one big commercial, from start to finish – not a moment of quiet, not a moment to talk about the game, loud music in between almost every pitch, and then commercials between innings. Except for the game itself, it was sort of appalling.
