Rizzo Watch

Despite Anthony Rizzo going 0 for 4 Wednesday night, the Cubs won a rain shortened game 5-1 over the Marlins. Chicago is now 12-5 (.706) since bringing up Rizzo, who is hitting .338/.357/.574. No other position player gives the team a winning record.

If the Cubs play .706 ball the rest of the way, they would finish with 88 wins. Atlanta currently holds the second wild card slot, and they project to 88 wins.

It’s unlikely that Chicago plays that well the rest of the season. In addition, they don’t play a lot of games outside of their division against teams in the wild card chase. They do play a ton of games in the division, however, so if the Rizzo effect is real, we’ll see how high they can climb.
