The Proper Slot

Ichiro Suzuki hit two home runs Sunday night as the Yankees defeated the Red Sox 4-1. The Yankees are batting Ichrio low in the lineup, mostly 8th, and Ichiro responded properly to that position. He’s pretty much given up on trying to reach base via the walk, drawing one free pass and getting hit twice since joining New York. His power, however, is up. He’s slugging .506 with the Yankees, and for someone batting at the bottom behind a good OBP team, that’s great. That type of hitting should drive in runs, and Ichiro has 13 RBI in 26 Yankees games. His main problem is that most of his power came with the bases empty. If Ichiro can keep about 1/3 of his hits for extra bases, that should even out and look for him to drive in more runs. We’ll see, as this is a small 92 PA stretch.
