Reds Take One

The Reds beat the Giants 5-2 Saturday night to take a 1-0 lead in their NLDS. Brandon Phillips had the big game offensively, driving in three runs with a homer and a single. Mat Latos gave the team four innings of relief after an injury caused Johnny Cueto to leave after just one out. The Giants were very patient against the Reds staff, drawing six walks and striking out just five times. They went 0 for 5 with runners in scoring position, however, as they could not take advantage of their scoring opportunities.

Cueto may start game three, and Latos could come back in game five.

Chapman wasn’t sharp, but that last rising 100 MPH fastball was completely unhittable–Posey had about a twentieth of a second to decide if the ball would tick the top of the zone or not and decide to swing, and he chose wrong. Astonishing pitch.
