I find myself one of the few people with a statistical bent who likes David Price over Justin Verlander. I understand the sabermetric argument for Verlander, but results matter, too. David did lead in ERA and backed up the ERA with wins. I’m perfectly fine with Justin winning it, but David had a great season.
One of the best arguments I could think to sway me toward Verlander is that Price was helped by his defense and Verlander hurt. Detroit’s defense was poor, but not when Justin pitched. His BABIP was low, so he didn’t lose much to his fielders.
The Price is right.
