How the Mighty Have Fallen

ESPN released their Sunday Night Baseball schedule through July 21st. The Yankees-Red Sox have only one matchup! It seems in past years every Sunday game between the two ended up as a national broadcast.

The Rangers are getting a lot of exposure. Conspicuously missing, however, are the Washington Nationals. The Nats did post the best record in baseball in 2012, and have two of the brightest young stars in the game in Stephen Strasburg and Bryce Harper. We’ll see if they make the second half of the schedule.

Well, the July 21 Yanks vs. BoSox game is the only date that’s been decided that the two teams COULD play the game. There is still June 2 (undecided by ESPN), August 18 (undecided by ESPN), Sept 8 (undecided) and Sept 15 (also undecided). If those two teams are in contention, I bet we see them at least two and maybe all four of those dates.

You’re being premature. The Red Sox and Yankees only play on two Sundays up to (and including) July 21. The July 21 game is on the schedule. The June 2 game may end up on the schedule. There’s three more Sunday games (8/18, 9/8 and 8/15) that could potentially end up as Sunday night games.

The Red Sox and Yankees play six series this year – five of those series are on weekends so obviously MLB and ESPN wants to be able to have them as the Sunday night game. The only weekday Series between the two teams is the season opener – guess what ESPN’s first game on Opening Day is? Yep, Yankees vs Red Sox at 1 PM.
