Leading the Way

Norichika Aoki goes three for four with two walks in the lead-off slot as the Brewers down the Cubs 7-4. Aoki came into the game with a .414 OBP, and with the big day pushed it up to .486. He’s doing a great job setting up the heart of the Brewers order.

Unfortunately, Aoki’s high number of times on base has not translated into many runs. He scored just once Monday afternoon, and five times in six Milwaukee games. I suspect if he keeps reaching base in every other plate appearance, having Ryan Braun batting near him will cause his run total to increase rapidly. Even scoring at his current rate would give him 135 runs over a full season, which would be a great year for anyone. There have only been 20 player seasons to reach that level in the last 55 years, the last by Curtis Granderson in 2011.
