Jaw Dropper

Jason Heyward has a broken jaw:

According to MLB.com’s Mark Bowman, Heyward has a fracture in his right jaw and will likely be out for the next 4-6 weeks — which could very well mean he is done for the rest of the 2013 regular season.

The Braves have a massive cushion over everyone else in the National League East standings and can use these next several weeks to get B.J. Upton, Jordan Schafer and Evan Gattis regular at-bats, but a broken jaw is a serious injury and Heyward was one of the hottest hitters in baseball. It’s fair to wonder how six weeks off might affect his stroke.

My guess is once the jaw is wired shut and stops hurting, Jason can work out , and probably even take batting practice on a daily basis. Of course, Chipper Jones might complain Heyward isn’t playing through pain. 🙂

I know many among the Red Sox fan base would expect Ellsbury to wear a mask and play like hockey players do. Hopefully Braves fans have more sense and know the difference between hitting a 95 mph FB and slapping a puck around.

Tough break for the Braves though.

How many more games do the Mets and Braves play?

First Hidson. Now Heyward. If they had started earlier in the season they would have picked off most of the top stars by now and given someone else a chance at the NLE flag?

    😉
