Streak Over

The Washington Nationals beat the Marlins 3-2 to stay on the edge of the wild card race. Denard Span, however, goes 0 for 4, and his hitting streak ends at 29 games. Bryce Harper had the big night for the Nats, with three hits, including his 20th home run of the season. That long ball breaks a tie with Alex Rodriguez for third on the list of most home runs through seasonal age 20. Harper’s 42 tops A-Rod’s 41. Bryce won’t catch Tony Conigliaro or Mel Ott, however.

The Nats are going to find themselves Pirates fans over the next week, as they need some team to pin five losses on the Reds, and the Pirates get six chances to do just that. Of course, the Reds pinning six losses on the Pirates would be just as good.
