No Sweep

The Cardinals beat the Red Sox 4-2, St. Louis earning a split in Boston. None of the seven series resulted in sweeps this season! There will be three games in St. Louis, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

Defense was the story in both games, as poor fielding by the Cardinals led to their defeat in game one, and two errors on one play led to the Red Sox blowing a 2-1 lead.

The injured Carlos Beltran picked up two hits, and now gets a day to rest and recover.

The Cardinals bullpen recorded six of their nine outs on strikeouts. It’s tough to score when hitters can’t put the ball in play. Jake Peavy faces Joe Kelly Saturday night at 8 PM EDT.

My hopes for a competitive series have risen. Not very impressed with the Cardinals offense still, but the bullpen is pretty good. If they can split the next 2 games, there is a good chance it goes 7. Still think the Red Sox are a better team by far, but losing either Papi or Napoli for 3 games is going to hurt.
