Marcus Semien led the attack as the White Sox pounded the Rockies Tuesday night, winning 15-3. Semien collected four hits and a walk, scoring twice and driving in two runs. The 23-year-old posted good minor league numbers, and is getting a chance to play second base with Gordon Beckham on the disabled list. Beckham was a highly touted prospect at one point, but he’s now four years older than Semien, and never hit that well. Semien has the opportunity to turn Gordon into Wally Pipp.
Well, let’s not go overboard. Semien had a good game, but so far his major league line is .255/.278/.391. Yeah, it’s a small sample. But he’ll need to show more consistency to win the job for good. Beckham had great stats in the minors, too…and a really good first year in the majors.
