Well, Wells

Looks like David Wells crossed up the Yankees and is headed for warmer climes:

"David agreed verbally to a deal," Cashman said. "There was one component to be completed, a weigh-in. We didn't get it finalized, but we had the financials in place.

"Right now, we're waiting to find out if Boomer honors his commitment. If not, we get two draft picks. He knows how I feel. The ball's in David's court."

Two years ago, Wells had a handshake deal to sign with the Arizona Diamondbacks when the Yankees swooped in to sign him at the last minute.

"I'm not complaining," Cashman said. "This can happen when you're negotiating with David."

I think Cashman's better off with the two draft picks. :-) The Padres expect Wells to lead their rotation, which says to me they don't think much of their starters. Still, local man makes good, and he'll be a draw at the new stadium.

I agree - let Wells take his 40 year old body to San Diego. True, he was going to be the only lefty in the Yank's rotation, but he wasn't even guaranteed a spot. And now with the 2 draft picks, which the Yankees SO desparately need, added to the 2 we get from Pettite and the one we get, we should have 5 first-round draft picks. Let's hope that we draft college players this year. ;)

The Yanks' rotation this year:

Mussina
Brown
Vazquez
Contreras
Lieber

is still better than last years of:

Mussina
Clemens
Pettite
Wells
Weaver/Hitchcock/Contrares

so we're in great shape. The only think is that we don't have a lefty starter. Ah well, as long as all your righty starters are of great quality, then I don't think there should be a problem. It would be interesting to take a look at the lefty-righty splits of last years pitchers and compare them to this years pitchers. I'm thinking of starting a blog myself - maybe that'll be my first entry. ;)

I am a Halifax Mooseheads hockey fan and I did a search for sports as I am looking for information on where Halifax Mooseheads players lived and the history about them and their culture. We have and have had hockey players from all over the world play with the local hockey team here in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. I am researching anyone who has played in the past and the present for the Halifax Mooseheads hockey team. I came upon your website when I searched for sports, the word "sport" was on this web page that put you in the search engine for sports. You got me sidetracked reading your opinions on your favorite team the Yankees. This blog here is like the tv shows I like to watch of so called sports experts sitting around a table irritating each other with their opinions, I find that very exciting, but I like all sports. Anyways, although I didnot find anything about any Moosehead players.
Good luck with your website.
It maynot be what I was searching for this time, but I will be back as you stoked my interest.
You seem to really know your stuff.
Take care and God Bless
Steve B. A Halifax Mooseheads Hockey Fan

I agree to draft college players instead of high school players.
