Liar!
Ken Rosenthal of the Sporting News does not believe that Alex Rodriguez has any credibility left:
No longer should anyone believe a word out of the mouth of Alex "Captain" Rodriguez.
His stated desire to stay with the Rangers was as comical as the Rangers' stated desire to keep him. And if you believe A-Rod will be content moving from shortstop to third base with the Yankees, you probably think Jack Nicholson would be willing to accept second billing to Ben Affleck.
Ken then goes on the make a very good argument why Rodriguez should be the shortstop, and I agree. Is Rodriguez and the Yankees playing politics with Jeter? Probably. I think A-Rod will be the shortstop eventually and Jeter will move positions. But Rosenthal certainly pulls no punches in the story when it comes to A-Rod's honesty.

His stated desire to stay with the Rangers? Nothing beats ARod's comment after the Boston trade broke down that he was "probably pretty sure that things would work out for the best."
Is Arod's arrival finally going to illuminate Jeter's many defficiencies? For years he's been a very poor defensive player; but, keeping in line with the love affair the New York and National Media have had with him, it has been very rarely mentioned until now. Also, I'm a believer that if you're a very good player, which Jeter has been, and have countless "big moment" opportunities (like he has), you are of course going to have many plays that many would call clutch. I think his propensity to excell in the playoffs is the result of his numerous opportunities... just as Bernie and Pettite hold all kinds of playoff/WS records. All are very good players, but isn't much of their success a result of great teams and myriad opportunities rather than pure clutchness or skill? My last question is do you think Jeter should volunteer to move to Third? Given that he is the Captain and such a great "Team Player", wouldn't this be a move that helps the ballclub? And again, why isn't Jeter being criticized more harshly for this seemingly selfish and destructive stance?
I don't think Jeter has the arm for third base. As for A-Rod's comments about wanting to stay with the Rangers, sure they were not true. But why would a sportswriter make a big deal out of it? Next big scoop: Barry Bonds doesn't really think Giants' fans are the best in the world. Yawn.
Where are people getting these bad reports of Jeter's arm from? The man's got a helluvan arm! Cripes, check out peas he throws to home on relay throws. Or just watch him warm up on the sidelines before a game. That used to be a ritual for me. Go down front and watch Derek and Tino play catch.
Meanwhile, Nicholson took second billing to Sandler, didn't he?
A-ROD is one of those players who will try to say what is PC at the time regardless of whether or not it's true. He hasn't had any credibility for years.
But he is one hell of a player.
I think Nathan hit the nail on the head. Jeter should be the one offering to move for the good of the team. He has the arm for third and he certainly doesn't have the range for short. If he's not moving now then when does he move? My prediction is never. Despite being one of the most overpriced players in baseball he walks on water in New York and he'll never be called out on his selfishness.
I'm not sure why people are singling out Rodriguez for those comments; they're what everyone says in sports.
How many managers receive a "vote of confidence" from an owner a few days before they fire them?
