Good Wood

Rooftop Report tells me that the Cubs have signed Kerry Wood to a new three-year contract. Congratulations to Kerry, and the Cubs fans have to be happy that Wood won't be testing the free agent waters any time soon.

This is a great signing by the Cubs. I have the specifics over at The Cub Reporter, but basically it's a three years deal for $32.5M with an option for '07 ($13.5M) that automatically vests if Wood throws 400 innings in '05 and '06.

Plus, a no-trade clause.

Add this to today's Derrek Lee signing, and the Cubs just locked up two really important pieces for the next three years. It's a good day.
