Loving the Bunt

I don't understand La Russa love of the bunt in the post season. Womack is one of the Cardinals better hitters. Why take the bat out of his hand just to advance runners? The two hitters coming up behind him aren't very good. I'd rather see Tony try to get a hit than waste an out.

Matheny hits a sac fly to drive in a run. We'll see what So-So can do.

Update: Taguchi strikes out. The Cardinals play for 1 run and get it.

Because LaRusa knows how to play small ball. He has a lineup of full of hitters who know how to hit hard and play small. That is old school baseball.

I liked Edmonds' bunt. The overshift is silly.

Rolen. Walker. Pujols. Edmonds. Sanders.

Womack is not one of the Cardinals "better" hitters, unless by "Cardinals" you mean:
a) The entire Cardinals 25 man roster
b) The entire St. Louis organization

I don't like the bunt in that situation either, but the justification isn't because Womack is one of their better hitters.

Yes, I should have said better hitters outside the big four.
