Another Mental Error

Mabry swings and misses at strike three, and Mabry doesn't run. Mabry thought he tipped it, but the replays look like he missed the ball. He didn't run, despite the ump calling it a strike, and was tagged out at the plate. When the ump called it a strike, he should have started running and argued later.

Update: Renteria gets stranded at third. The Sox still lead 3-0.

I couldn't agree more. Mabry turned and watched the umpire call the strike. Run now, be petty later.

What happened to the team that ran the bases well?

This seems to have been completely lost in the all the coverage of the game that understandably focuses on the end of the curse. However, even during the game it seemed that the FOX broadcasters spent all their time analyzing the replay without mentioning that this was another mental error by the Cards. Renteria was on 3rd and there was one out. If Mabry just starts to run Varitek would have had to throw to first for the out. Mabry really blew it by not forcing that throw to take place and creating the chance that something good could happen. Thanks for poiting it out.

re: John Mabry

Mabry was a horrible player for the Phils. We dumped him as a throwin on a trade.

What was he doing starting for the Cardinals in a critical game 4 of the World Series.

He is a pretty dim bulb as well as being talentless.
