Bye Sky
Rogers Communications, the owners of the Blue Jays, have purchased Skydome and are renaming it the Rogers Center. There will be a number of renovations, including new turf and a new scoreboard.
More importantly, Rogers is upping the three-year budget to $210 million US dollars. That's what I like to see; owners willing to invest in winning. Ricciardi should have enough money now to build a decent team.

This could work out well for the Jays. In two or three years, the Yankees will have a bunch of aging stars at the end of very expensive contracts. With an ~$80 million payroll in 2006-7 and some very promising young players, Ricciardi should be able to compete effectively.
Although it has been very tough for the Jays the past few years, don't forget that in the early 90s they had the highest attendance in baseball, the highest payroll (or very close), and (of course) two World Series titles. Perhaps history can repeat...
Being that my name is Sky (short for Schuyler), I've always felt an affinity for SkyDome. Growing up in Rochester, NY, our neighborhood would take annual trips up to Toronto to catch a couple Jays' games at SkyDome.
The concessionaires used to wear bright yellow hats with "SkySnacks" written across the front, and as a young teen I just had to have one. My dad asked a bunch of the vendors that walked the aisles if they'd sell theirs, but evidently they were charged big bucks if they lost their hat and thus nobody would sell. One cute female vendor, who turned out to be from Scotland, offered to send me her hat after the season if we left our address with her.
Long after I'd forgotten about the promise, I received a package in the mail, post-marked from Scotland, and containing a slighty-worn neon-yellow SkySnacks hat. After I graduated from college and moved to North Carolina, I threw away most of my hat collection, keeping only a few of my favorites, including the SkySnacks hat.
Ron, the Yankees already have a bunch of aging stars. We dont need to let them get any older. It like the early 80's when George collected 1B/DH.
Jay Buhner for Ken Phelps. The Yankees are like Larry Brown/Jim Mora .... Rookies ??? Rookies ???
Don't talk to me about ROOKIES.
PS... I am and have been a life long Yankee fan, but it doesnt cloud my objectivity. The franchise is circling the drain, but George isnt getting any younger and I dont think his kids want to take over the team.
