Another Suspension

Jorge Piedra was suspended today for steroid use. Now here's a player who's stats make him look guilty. He showed little power through the first half of 2002, but start slugging when he was sent back to A ball. Of course, he was in AAA in Colorado Spring last year, which I guess is a pretty good hitters park.

Wow! Talk about suspicious! Iso-power never above .149 before the demotion, never below .223 after the demotion. I'm gradually accepting the notion that MLB has a reasonable testing program in place.

The ball carries as well or better in CSprings as in Coors, and I believe the fences are shorter... and of course the PCL has other stadia which are hitter friendly too...

I wouldn't read too much into it. Even when you KNOW what Coors does to stats, its still hard to grasp; a pitcher with a 5.25 ERA is doing great-- he'd probably be at 4.00 in Milwaukee... and the Springs is a little bit better hitter's park with poorer pitchers in it...
