Phillies Stand Pat

Phillies Nation links to an Inquirer article indicating Pat Gillick will be the new GM of the Philadelphia National League franchise. Let's hope the Inquirer is doing a better job than the Globe. :-)

This is excellent news for the Phillies. Gillick does a good job of combining talents into a winning unit. He sees strengths and weaknesses and is able to trade or sign players to improve the team. Phillies phans should be very happy at this development.

Having spent four years in Philly for college and attending numerous Phillies games, I guarantee you that Phillies fans will find some way to be unhappy about this. In fact, Phillies fans will find some way to be unhappy about their team when they finall win the World Series. It's just part of the city's nature (and charm, too, actually).

As long as he doesn't only bring in relievers (cough Wade cough) or forget to check GB/FB ratios (cough Wade with Urbina cough) he'll be fine.

I just didn't want him in Boston for some reason.

So where's this leave the Dodgers? Is Hershiser going to be the new GM? Can't he be the pitching coachc instead?
