Cub Calamity
None of the news from the northside is sitting well with the Cub Reporter lately. The latest is a possible trade of Todd Walker for Luis Matos. Why wouldn't he want a 27-year-old with a .316 career OBA?

Matos looks like a Dusty Baker sort of player. Nice low OBP.
I like Matos. Butnd don't look at his carrer OBP. That's weighed down heavily by his godawful 2003 season. Last season he posted a .340 OBP with great defense in CF. He's not great, but he's better than your average CF. Don't get me wrong, I don't like the trade for the Cubs, but Matos isn't bad.
And Todd Walker can be very good in a platoon situation. Bat him against righties and watch him post a 830+ OPS. Match him up with Mark Bellhorn and you have an 850-900 OPS second baseman. Why don't teams use platoons more often instead of carrying that useless LOOGY?
Ramble on...
What the Cubs really need is a starting pitcher or two. It's obvious they can't depend on Wood or Prior for 25-30 starts.
