Little League Dinner

Sean Kirst attended his local Little League dinner and heard the CEO give an interesting talk on winning at that level.
Rather than downplaying winning, maybe they should work harder at distributing talent evenly.

That's very touching. I think Little League is a little more complex than some people realize. keener's a good guy, but I wish LL would be more proactive about the overcompetitiveness in the tournaments -- and especially the way coaches waste kids' arms. There's a new book coming out soon -- now listed on amazon -- that explores the good, bad, and ugly of LL. My cousin sent me the following from another site:

Look for a new book on the phenomenon of the Little League World Series. “Little League, Big Dreams,” by Charles Euchner, examines the whole culture of youth sports through a behind-the-scenes narrative of the Little League World Series. The book explores every aspect of youth baseball today—strategies for building a championship team, the long and winding road to Williamsport, approaches to training, the epidemic of pitching injuries, the commercialization of the event, the role of the media, and even the growing challenges posed by travel teams and other leagues. Euchner, the author of the acclaimed “The Last Nine Innings,” takes a critical but sympathetic look at the people behind the greatest spectacle in youth sports. I like what Keener said but would be happier if LLB did more to deal with the outta-control competitiveness of its tourneys and abuse to kids' arms.

I tried to send this before. Someone sent me this from another site:
