Grimsley Gone

Jason Grimsely asked for his release today. The Diamondbacks granted his wish. I'm not surprised at all by this. There's no way his teammates could trust him anymore.

I sure wouldn't trust a teammate who might have reported my illegial drug use in return for not going to jail, either.

Serves him right, the snitch.

Sad, but true. No one likes a rat. Even, if it was a play forced by law and a previously failed drug test. Plus, Grimsley wasn't playing nice with the Feds anymore.

The thing is, he didn't even rat his teammates out for immunity to charges - if I understand the affidavit correctly, all he got for cooperation was the Feds or IRS telling him that they wouldn't make a scene at his house and embarrass him.

As far as I know he's still very much in danger of being charged with several crimes.

He should have hired a lawyer a long time ago. He sure needs one now.

what a dirty scum.

not just a cheat but a rat too.

i wonder if this confession was witnessed or signed

and i STILL want to know why the IRS is after drug users

Call him a rat if you like. But if the "code of the clubhouse" has provided cover for hundreds of ballplayers to cheat, then the code should be broken. Grimsley's case could lead to HGH testing, which is the next step needed to clean up the game. We're better off knowing the truth than living with the ugly cloud of suspicion that currently hangs over the game.

And I don't think the IRS is after drug users; it's after people who fail to report income. From the quantities of HGH Grimsley handled, there's a good chance he was not only using but dealing.

Exactly. Remember, Al Capone eventually got busted on tax evasion. Bonds' big legal problems right now are less related to Steroids as they are to his failing to report income from autograph signings. Grimsley, I believe, is being investigated for drug money and laundering. And that means it's a significant amount of money, if the IRS is involved.
Regardless, this whole "Grimsley asked for his release" is absurd. I would guess it was one of those forced resignations. The D-Backs are in a 1st place and don't need the distraction right now.

john

the code of the clubhouse is how guys can live and work together the way they do for months and months.

if you have a bunch of people together like that who can't trust each other it's gonna be very bad. you can't work with someone when you never know who gonna stab you in the back over anything. because a rat is a rat.

grimsley's case can NOT lead to hgh testing cuz no such thing and they years away from finding a way to look for it.

2 kits does not sound to me like dealing.

seems to me the dea should be the one to go after drug dealers. or the fbi. not the irs...

- and i disbelieve the not reporting thing about bonds. the only evidence is what kim bell said. you think it's a fact, not an accusation. you think if it was true novitski wouldn't have nailed him a LONG time ago?

nailing bonds is what got him started and keeps him going

Actually, Lisa, a fairly simple blood test can detect HgH. And the 2 kits contained a boatload of HGH - as Grimsley said himself, at least one year's worth. And he named almost 100 names. This is going to end up being huge. It may even break the players union, I believe.

Good grief, is this a professional sport or the Mafia we're talking about here? "A rat is a rat"... should we hope Grimsley winds up at the bottom of the river in cement overshoes?

And from what I've read, there's a whole lot more evidence about Bonds than just Kim Bell. There are many possible explanations for not charging Bonds yet; the most likely is that investigations take time, and they want to nail down all the facts they can before proceeding to court.

Exactly right, johnw. This is pathetic. It's not the Sopranos, people. Not only that, he did not "rat" anybody out. He was trying to talk his way out of a problem. Gave up too much in the process, the Feds have a way of doing that to people. Espcially those who are not career criminals. From the AP story"The (initial) meeting lasted about two hours, after which Grimsley apparently stopped cooperating, prompting Tuesday's search." They picked him up, he tried to make it go away. He did not cut a deal. Just lost control under the circumstances. And screw anybody who gets busted as a result. They are liars, cheaters, and criminals.

david

no there is NO blood test for hgh - you are just wrong. there are not even close to having one yet. sure they can tell if there is not ANY, but that is it.

john,

and from what i have read there is NO evidence except kim bell.

- and no this is not the mafia - doing drugs is a crime, but it is different.

but a person who betray his family is just filth. would you rat out YOUR friends?

he don't need no cement shoes.

he already got no friends left, just might could be headed for prison and he better have saved up because he ain't gonna get no job i can think of. maybe walmart or BK.

gonna be interesting to see if mike sweeney and all the supposedly clean outspoken players gonna rally around grimsley and support him. i would bet they don't have nothing to do with him neither
