A-Rod Goes Deep

Alex Rodriguez is mired in a June swoon, but he just went deep to cut the score to 6-2 Cleveland. It's his first homer of the month, and with the 1 for 3 he's now batting just .154 in the month. Bernie Williams also homer to make the score 6-3 in top of the 8th.

woohoo, with a lowercase 'w'.

Strikes out with men on 2nd & 3rd where a lousy single would have tied the game. It's getting frustrating, but not enough for me to boo the guy. He tries way too hard to deserve that.

A-Rod is the greatest homerun hitter of all time when it means absolutely NOTHING. Thank God the Sox didn't get him. I think Theo just pulled a ploy to get George to bite and take on Arod. Is it possible big George could age even more than he looks this year. I like the Yankees to end up in third place this year???

You know, this rep that A-Rod only hits homers in blowouts or whatever is all well and good, except, well, those darn stats don't back it up, one bit. For example, and this is from waswatching.com:

David Ortiz came to the plate 92 times in 2005 in "Close & Late" Situations. His On Base Average was .447 in those spots. Therefore, in 51 of 92 "Close & Late" Situations this year, Ortiz was retired.

Alex Rodriguez came to the plate 90 times in 2005 in "Close & Late" Situations. His On Base Average was .418 in those spots. Therefore, in 52 of 90 "Close & Late" Situations this year, A-Rod was retired.

The agent Arod hired convinced John Hart to overpay ridiculously. The problems surrounding that decision have caused much of the
negative attention Alex has received. Actions have consequences. He is paying for that mistake. When I looked up Close and Late a few days ago, his average was .138, ranking 89th in the AL year to date.
