Silva Lining

The Red Sox should be a bit embarassed tonight as they failed to score against Carlos Silva, he of the 7.73 ERA coming into the game. Silva pitched six shutout innings before giving up two hits to start the seventh. Unfortunately, just as he was pitching well. he left due to an injury (it looked like a leg, but I have not heard details). One step forward, two back. The Twins lead 4-0 in the eighth.

Of course, the Sox would have scored if a well placed speaker hadn't turned an Ortiz monster homer into a long, high single. After which Manny grounded into a double play. As I'm typing, a foul ball hits a speaker.

Boston traded Riske to the WSox for Javier Lopez. WTF?!?!?

BA's spin is that Boston needs a lefty. BS, I say. Riske has put up solid #'s at the major league level. It's not even clear that Lopez will "stick" at the major league level. And, Boston let go of a great LOOGY (Myers).

Yeah, yeah, yeah, "Theo is God," and all that. But, this is ridiculous. Last year, philosophy was "we need a LOOGY." This year, it was "we don't need a LOOGY." Now, it's back to "we need a LOOGY?" Trouble is that with each change in philosophy, money and/or personel is wasted. At least the Yankees understand the concept of patience...

Not only should they be humiliated by getting shut out by Silva, but by getting shut down by Brad "6.50 ERA" Radke last night, too. Absolutely horrifying.

Can Wakefield get one game where he has any run support. This is getting ridiculous. He seems to pitch a decent game everytime he starts, but the sox give him nothing to work with. If he lets up more than two runs he has no chance for the win. I think he has the lowest run support of any pitcher in the major league. Why is this happening to a good offensive club?
