Political correctness caught up to Ozzie Guillen today.

On Tuesday to reporters, White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen referred to Chicago Sun-Times columnist and Around the Horn contributor Jay Mariotti as a derogatory name for a homosexual.

Angry with a recent column by Mariotti critical of Guillen's handling of recently demoted relief pitcher Sean Tracey and upset with Mariotti with columns of the past, Guillen said to reporters when referring to Mariotti before Tuesday's game with the Cardinals, "What a piece of [expletive] he is, [expletive] fag."

Ozzie says the word fag is used differently in Venezulea.

Guillen said that in his native Venezuela, that word is not a reference to a person's sexuality, but to his courage. He said he was saying that Mariotti is "not man enough to meet me and talk about [things before writing].''

Guillen also told Couch that he has gay friends, attends WNBA games, went to a Madonna concert and plans to go to the Gay Games in Chicago.

"I called that of this man [Mariotti],'' he told Couch. "I'm not trying to hurt anybody [else]."

I thought he was calling him a cigarette, myself. The problem of course, is that Ozzie didn't finish the insult with, "Not that there's anything wrong with that!"

And how is the stereotyping going? WNBA? Madonna concerts! I bet he likes Barbara Streisand albums and Judy Garland movies, too. Just keep digging your own grave, Ozzie.

This isn't the first time he's been quoted using that term - it also came up last year at Yankee Stadium as he was using it in a 'good naturedly' way during pre-game activities.

He. went. to. a. Madonna. concert?
My opinion of him just went down.

I like how "attending WNBA games" is thrown in there as evidence that he's OK with gays.

Didn't he also equate gay people and child molestors last year?

Ozzie is sooooo good for baseball and all many of you fellas can do is pick him apart like a bunch of tabloid addicts...LOL

Geeez fellas..Marriotti has always been loud, inaccurate and gutless......a spade by any other name is still a spade..that is all Ozzie was trying to say...politically correct he aint....What a breath of fresh air.

If you "average out" Dusty who has no personality at all and Ozzie who has too much, uhh, personality, you might get a normal person.

Ozzie proves to me that any buffoon can be a manager, and they hardly make any difference at all. The only impact I see is a guy like Dusty who blows through young starters and then wonders why he is unlucky.

"Politcal Correctness" caught up with him? Really? Would you be saying that if the term he used was "?"

Yeah, I didn't think so.

If we let's Ozzie get away with this by keeping his job then the terrorists have won.

He called the guy a fag. Big deal.

There are worse things in the world to act indignant about.

Hey Al, could you manage the White Sox to a World Series victory? Managers do matter when they keep a team focused, motivated, and help to create good chemistry. I know there is no way to scientifically prove that, but that doesn't stop me from believing it based on common sense and life expereience. Ever had a bad manager at work? Make a difference?

Ozzie is not a buffoon... you just don't like him. Fair enough.

Watching Ozzie Guillen run his mouth must be akin to seeing an elephant on laxatives. Just when you think there's no earthly way any more excrement could come flooding out of that gaping hole, grab a bag because Ozzie's lips will move again.
