Emerging Ace

Although he didn't get the win today, Jeremy Bonderman put together his third straight game going at least seven innings and allowing one run. In the 22 innings pitched, he's struck out 32 batters and walked just five. He left with the game tied, but the Tigers scored three in the bottom of the eighth to send the Cardinals to their sixth straight loss.

Everyone thought the Tigers were a bit of a fluke to start the season. Well, they are now 51-25 and could win 94 games by only playing .500 the rest of the way.

Now that Bonderman is finally heating up and guys like Craig Monroe and Placido Polanco have played well below expectations, it is very unlikely that they fall out of the playoff race.

The White Sox are 15-3 over their last 18 games. That's a pretty good run. At that time they were 2.5 games out. At start of play today they were .5 games out. During their 9 game winning streak, the Sox picked up 1 game.

These are the two best teams in the AL right now by far. Given the beating the AL has delivered to the NL during interleague play, the Tigers and Sox (who both swept St. Louis) are the teams to watch the rest of the way.
