Tighter Wild Card

The Twins defeat the White Sox 7-4. With the Yankees winning over Texas 6-2, the AL Wild Card race gets much closer. Chicago now leads the Yankees by 1 1/2 games, the Twins by 2. The White Sox are 3-10 over their last 13 games.

And all the sudden all those "the Wild card will come out of the central for sure" guys look like morons.

The White Sox starters have really collapsed... I wonder if Detriot's pitching (and more over thier no walk a ton of strike out offense) can hold up for the next two month ...

You have to admire Kenny Williams' response to the slump, making aggressive moves to improve his club at the deadline. First Macdougal, next Soriano. Don't know if it'll work or not; it's hard to stay strong for a full year after winning the World Series. Maybe the White Sox are running out of steam after a year and a half of excellence. Or maybe the antics of Ozzie are starting to wear thin.

Even if the White Sox collapse, the Wild Card might still come out of the Central. The Twins have got the hammer down. And we keep waiting for the Tigers to cool down, and they keep not doing it. Maybe they actually are for real?

Really? Out of the last 13?

Since when are teams judget by the last 13 games?

Homer Simpson: "Aw, people can come up with statistics to prove anything, Kent [Brockman]. Forfty percent of all people know that."

The trade for Soriano hasn't been finished just yet, johnw.

Sure is going to be interesting having the Twins in the race despite their lack of depth in OF right now.

If the White Sox add Soriano, it will cement the fact that the Yankees aren't the bully of a team with an inpenetrable lineup. I'm amazed they are keeping pace with that Cabrera-Guiel-Crosby outfield.

I wouldn't say the Twins have a lack of depth in the outfield because their situation is temporary. Moreover, Tyner can flat-out play. This Rabe (who's on the bench) is decent. Rondell White is playing out there. Punto can play out there as well.

Hunter is back in a couple of weeks and all this "lack of depth" talk can be shelved.
