First and Last
Jose Valentin picked up the first hit for the Mets today, and he gets the last one as well. Valentin singles with two out and the bases loaded with the heart of the Mets order to give New York a 1-0 victory over the Cubs in 10 innings. At 36, he's having his best power year, and allowed the Mets to get rid of Kaz Matsui. It's the 11th time the Cubs were shutout this season.
