Cubs Find Their Offense
Jon Lieber commits an error to allow leadoff man Pierre to reach base. He steals, and the Cubs try to bunt him over. It's a very good bunt as Ryan Theriot beats it out for a single. All the small ball sets up a long ball as Aramis Ramirez goes deep to left center to put the Cubs up 3-0 over the Phillies.
In their last seven games, the Cubs scored 38 runs. All 38 came in the five wins; they were shutout in the two losses. An early 3-0 bodes well for Chicago as the runs are coming easily lately.
Update: Juan Pierre homers leading off the third inning to extend the Cubs lead to 4-0. That's nine home runs in the last three games for Chicago.
Update: The Cubs score another run and chase Lieber from the game. Chicago leads 5-0 in the middle of the third.
