Gloves at First

I find it strange that the weakest offensive position for the Yankees next year will be at first base.

Yeah, but it will be the strongest defensive position...

No it won't. Menky can't field like he used to. He used to put up Rates of over 100 (but not well over 100, more of 102-106). Now he's putting up Rates of the low 90's. The guy has no range. He might be able to pick a few balls out of the dirt, but if he has no range and can't hit a lick AND he bats lefty, what real use is he?

Maybe it's to appease A-Rod. That's the only thing I can think.

I saw him here in Kansas City and he had good range in the games he played foe us.

Just like to point out that this is the guy who said that Twins-White Sox games were more intense than Red Sox-Yankees games.

re: 1b for the Yanks

This is just a mistake on the Yanks part.

Either Giambi should play first, or they should move Giambi for a guy who can actually play first base and hit homers.

It's ridiculous that a guy Giambi's age can't play 1b every day.

DHing for a first baseman is silly. You dh for position players not first basemen.

Bernie Williams is an obvious choice to be dh if he can still hit; Giambi should either play his position, or the Yanks should move him for another 1b who can play and hit homers.

I agree it's strange that any team should be weak offensively at first. The minor leagues should have a first basemen.
